The weight of the photo paper is measured in GSM (Grams per Square Metre). The greater the weight of the photo paper, the denser the photo paper. It has an effect on the paper surface, with GSM value of 90 or more giving a smooth finish.

Another thing that needs to be remembered when searching for the best paper finish is the calliper of the paper, which refers to the papers thickness. The thicker the paper the better; the thicker the paper the greater the retention capability of inks it has, which means quality images can be produced.

Also, the opacity of the photo paper should be high enough to hold the ink and save it from bleeding to the other side. Its significance is important when you want to print on both sides of the paper i.e. double side printing.

The best photo paper I found for my prints is Black Diamond 260gsm glossy photo paper. There are two sizes are available:

• A4 glossy paper

• A3 glossy photo paper

I use both these sizes for my printing work. They work exceptionally well for me.

Usage of 260gsm glossy photo paper

The 260gsm glossy photo paper is best used in digital photography, posters, graphics and scanned or CD images. It offers the sharpness and shine that an image needs in print form. I was astonished to see the results when I used it for the first time. Matte finish paper gives a comparatively flat and duller feel.

Glossy photo paper with a weight of 260gsm is the most subtle, vibrant and dazzling of long lasting photo papers, especially for arts prints and photographs.
